A report from China’s National Computer Virus Emergency Response Center claims the United States has seized over $30 billion worth of cryptocurrency between 2022 and 2025 through law enforcement actions.
The report frames US enforcement actions as “technological hegemony” — a strategic tool for financial gains rather than pure law enforcement. Take that framing with context: it’s a Chinese government publication.
The numbers themselves are verifiable. The DOJ’s crypto seizures include Bitfinex ($3.6B), Silk Road ($1B+), and dozens of smaller actions. Our crypto database tracks 16,000+ tokens. Many of the seized assets came from tokens and wallets linked to fraud, ransomware, and sanctions evasion.
$30 billion is roughly 2.2% of the current total crypto market cap. Not nothing.
