FUN FACTS

Pietermaritzburg (; Zulu: uMgungundlovu) is the capital and second-largest city in the province of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa after Durban. Pietermaritzburg is popularly called Maritzburg and is often informally abbreviated to PMB. Pietermaritzburg is approximately 160 km (100 mi) direct from the Zulu capital, Mgungundlovu. The town grew rapidly to become the capital of the short-lived Boer Republic or Natalia.
